Klipsch The Sixes Powered Monitor – Walnut Veneer (Pair)

Although most powered speakers cost less than $500, there are still great options available for those who can afford to spend $500+ or even $1000+ for a speaker system.

While high-end speakers manufacturers tend to be more focused on passive speakers than powered stereo systems, almost all of them offer one or two powered options. DALI (Zensor), Audioengine (LSX, LS50), Focal(Shape 65), ELAC/ARB 51, Paradigm (Shift 82), etc., are some of the brands that we recommend.

Although it isn’t the most expensive system on the market, it’s not outrageously expensive. The Sixes are a great value for money, considering all of the features, the overall design, build quality, and sound quality.

You can choose from two finishes/colours for the speakers: walnut or ebony. We think walnut looks better, but that’s just our personal preference. The build quality of the speakers is excellent. You can remove the grilles from the speakers; the speakers come with a removable grille.

The right speaker is the main speaker. The front panel has an IR sensor and volume dial; there is also an input selector.
There are several inputs on the back. A set of RCA inputs on the back with a GND terminal, phono/line switch and one set of RCA outputs.

These inputs can be connected to your turntable using a phono/line switch and a GND terminal. You can also use them with other analogue audio sources with standard RCA line outputs (switch at line position). There are three RCA inputs: one AUX-IN and one optical input. One USB Type-B input is also available.

A subwoofer pre-out port (LFE), which can connect an external subwoofer, is also available. The slave speaker has a 4-pin speaker output. Only one 4-pin speaker input is public on the back of the other speaker.

Apart from all the physical connections, the Sixes have Bluetooth 4.0. It is a minor problem. Bluetooth works flawlessly, and the range is well beyond 50ft.

Two drivers are housed in each speaker – a 6.5″ woofer and a 1″ titanium tweeter with Klipsch’s Tractrix Horn. The cabinets have a ported design. The Sixes produce great bass, much better than any of the speaker systems previously reviewed.

This system is capable of reproducing bass like no other powered stereo system. It is deep, but it’s also dynamic and well-controlled. The mids are balanced, vibrant, and detailed; the highs are slightly higher, making them more interesting.

Although they may seem a bit brighter than necessary, they are not too harsh or fatiguing. The system’s RMS power output is 200W.
